3 Undrafted Philadelphia Eagles rookies who could earn roster spots
Don’t forget about Joe Ostman if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan. He’s a longshot but interesting.
Hey, does anyone remember this guy? The Philadelphia Eagles, when they opened camp in 2017, had no idea that they were on the verge of a Super Bowl-winning season. They couldn’t have. None of us did.
Sure, the goal was to win one, but after finishing with a 7-9 mark in 2016. that year’s draft and every undrafted free-agent acquisition that they added and were banking on were expected to do all that they could to ensure that the “Birds” would be good for a long time. As mentioned earlier, Greg Ward Jr., Tre Sullivan, and Corey Clement have all proved that they could play in the league. Joe Ostman, a Second-team All-Mid American Conference nod on defense in 2016, would have to wait. As a matter of fact, he’s still waiting for an opportunity.
Since 2018, Ostman has appeared in a few preseason games, but we haven’t talked about him much, outside of the fact that he keeps getting invited back to camp and, while he was having a nice preseason in 2019, his season ended prematurely thanks to a torn ACL.
He keeps hanging around though, and now, in 2020, he might have his best chance of making this roster. Derek Barnett, Brandon Graham, Genard Avery, and Josh Sweat will make the team. Ostman could be in an interesting battle for two spots versus Shareef Miller and Casey Toohill. Don’t be surprised if Ostman sneaks past one of them or both of them on the depth chart.
