A trio of wideouts should be on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad.

Despite a strong showing in training camp, there simply wasn’t enough room for Deontay Burnett. In the limited action he’s seen in the NFL, he’s played well. He played five games for the New York Jets in 2018, and he hauled in ten catches on 15 targets for 143 yards (14.3 yards per catch).

Last year, he was a late addition to the Eagles practice squad and was promoted just a few weeks later. In the one regular-season game with the Birds, he caught two of four targets for 48 yards, one of those being a crucial 40-yard grab late in the game. The Birds already have multiple injuries at the receiver position, and Burnett is a reliable slot receiver who can get the job done when called upon.

Manasseh Bailey had no chance of making the Eagles active roster but he’s a developmental player to keep an eye on. He’s another track star who can stretch the field and track down the deep ball with ease.

The Morgan State receiver also has experience as a return man and at various positions on special teams (he blocked three kicks during his college career). His skill set could get him on the field sometime down the road if he is patient like Greg Ward was.

Many thought that Robert Davis would hang around, but the Eagles waived him a little over a week ago because of an injury. Marcus Green was with the practice squad all of last year after spending the preseason in Atlanta, and he could stay with the practice squad once again.

Burnett is clearly the next option at slot receiver if the Birds want to call one up but Green is also an option if needed. While the Eagles have multiple guys who can play in the slot, Ward, Burnett, and Green are the only true slot receivers who don’t spend much time on the outside so keeping Green makes sense especially if Robert Davis doesn’t return.
