Carson Wentz wasn’t quite as bad as Russell Wilson was a few years ago.

Nobody wants to remember that Russell Wilson wasn’t always the guy that he is now. He struggled early as those great Seattle Seahawks teams were carried by the ‘Legion of Boom’ and won in spite of him, not because of him. He had a mediocre fifth year as the starter, and while he led the team to a 10-5-1 record, he threw just 21 touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions.

He endured a four-game stretch that year where he threw three touchdowns versus eight interceptions, and he completed just 59.7 percent of his passes. He was also sacked 13 times for 73 yards in that span. In another of those games, he threw one touchdown and five interceptions while completing 56.4 percent of his passes in a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Wilson still led them a playoff berth at 10-5-1, but everyone seems to have forgotten that there were growing pains along the way.

In week one of 2018 (Wilson’s seventh year as a starter), he completed 57.58 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions in a 27-24 loss to the Denver Broncos who finished 6-10 that year. Seattle still went 10-6 and made the playoffs. The Eagles’ have a tough schedule so they desperately need to bounce back, but it’s evident week one upsets aren’t uncommon.

Wentz will learn from all of this and develop a better understanding of when to throw the ball away and when to try to extend the play. He’s gotten to a point in his career where these mistakes need to be limited, but at the same time, again, ineffective play happens from time to time at the quarterback position, even for the best in the game, just ask the guy in Seattle. We won’t even bring up that final pass in what should have been Seattle’s second Super Bowl win. Had that been Carson, he would have never been forgiven
