Philadelphia Eagles: 5 Keys to a win versus Los Angeles in Week 2
By Hunter Doyle
5. The Philadelphia Eagles need to make Jared Goff uncomfortable.
Jared Goff played well Sunday night, but a lot of that had to do with the Rams’ scheme making him comfortable. He didn’t have to make any big throws to win the game. Instead, McVay kept it simple, and Goff made most of the right decisions. The offensive line also gave him a clean pocket for most of the day.
When things broke down for Goff is where things got interesting. He made a few bad throws, one of which was an ill-advised interception to Chidobe Awuzie. When Los Angeles doesn’t go with heavy formations from under center, they tend to go with an empty backfield and split every one out wide. If Jim Schwartz can dial up a few blitzes and stunts at the right time, Goff could make a couple of bad decisions that hand the ball back to the Eagles offense.
Josh Sweat will be key in this one. He’s probably going to line up against Andrew Whitworth for most of his snaps. Whitworth is still one of the league’s best offensive tackles, even at 38 years of age, but he might not be able to contain Sweat’s speed around the edge consistently.
Sweat gave Geron Christian fits last week. Christian and Whitworth are night and day but it was encouraging to see how well Sweat played in his first start. Not only was he beating Christian, but he was also getting to Haskins in record time which earned him a grade of 91.9 from Pro Football Focus. This could be his breakout season. Keep an eye on him once again in this one.
