player. 54. . . . Nathan Gerry. 3

The Philadelphia Eagles don’t really want this guy, do they?

Here’s something that you may not have noticed this offseason. Then again, you might have. Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman wasn’t very active in getting a deal done for Nathan Gerry.

Now, that may not seem like much of a red flag but think about it. Howie always jumps the gun. He’s always signing too many old players for too much money and giving them too many years on their deal.

He’s always exercising that other year on the current deal before we get a chance to see if the person he’s done it for actually should have had that option exercised, and more often than not, they shouldn’t have (think Alshon Jeffery or Derek Barnett). He’s always spending money like a freshman in college that’s gotten their first credit card but has forgotten that a bill will one day come. A general manager is graded on two things, his drafts and managing the salary cap. Howie hasn’t been able to do either job well.

Here’s what was strange though. Howie didn’t do anything in terms of Nathan Gerry last season or this past offseason. The ‘White Snake’ needs a new deal. This is the final year of his rookie contract, yet it appears that the decision has been made. Philly’s going to let Gerry play this year out and just see what happens.

Unfortunately, ’47’ is stinking up the joint with a new deal on the line. He may not just lose out on a long-term deal from Philly. He might not get picked up by anybody if he keeps playing like he is.
