54. . . . 'Big Play', cornerback. 2. player

Darius Slay is one of the best decisions the Philadelphia Eagles have made.

Philadelphia Eagles fans have been hurt over and over again by the choices this franchise has made at cornerback for so long that it almost seems unfair to ask them to believe that Philly could actually go out and make a move for a cover guy and land the right one.

As a result, as good as Darius Slay is, every time any opposing quarterback drops back to pass and they toss one in his direction, Eagles fans just wait on something to go wrong, even if Slay has done nothing to make them feel like he shouldn’t warrant their confidence.

Again, can you blame anybody that feels that way? This is a fan base that has suffered through Nolan Carroll, Nnamdi Asomugha, and Ronald Darby and hasn’t seen a formidable tandem since Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown or, before that, Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor.

Every time you see ‘Big Play’ knock one down or run stride for stride with some of the game’s best receivers, the fear that he’ll also let us down diminishes slightly, but he’s also 29 years old and turns 30 in January. Could the decline be coming soon? This isn’t a bad buy-in as far as stocks go, but it’s one you have to cross your fingers on.
