Philadelphia Eagles schedule: Ten 49ers that can wreck Philly’s week
These defensive standouts could give the Philadelphia Eagles some problems.
We wouldn’t have blamed Jason Verrett if he had decided to quit at any point in the last six years. Since the Los Angeles Chargers selected him with 25th pick in 2014’s draft, Verrett has spent more time with the medical staff than on the field and his injury history would surely make more than one nurse faint.
He’s only played in more than six games once, and interestingly enough, received Pro Bowl honors that season. That was back in 2015 though. He finally seems to be healthy this season as he’s subbed for cornerback Richard Sherman solidly (Week 3). He’ll likely see some playing time again versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 49ers haven’t missed a beat despite losing some of their core defensive players to injuries. In Week 3, they were without Sherman, defensive end Nick Bosa, defensive tackle Salomon Thomas, and edge rusher Dee Ford. They still beat the Giants 36-9. One of the reasons that they were able to do so was the presence of linebacker Fred Warner.
The BYU standout has started every possible game since the 49ers made him a third-round pick in 2018. Even though Warner doesn’t get the national recognition of some of his teammates, things could change if he has a solid performance on the Sunday Night Football stage. He’s registered 28 tackles, one pass deflection, and one interception already in 2020.
