Philadelphia Eagles fans will love this Week 5 NFC East Power Ranking
The Philadelphia Eagles were the best NFC East team in Week 4.
So looking back, how do you feel about the Eagles’ 25-20 victory over the 49ers now? Wasn’t it great to see all of those things that we were excited about in the offseason come to fruition? Carson Wentz played like the quarterback he was in previous seasons. He moved around the pocket and used his legs while avoiding the 49ers rush. He was efficient, even with unfamiliar targets like Travis Fulgham and John Hightower.
Wentz wasn’t the only player in an Eagles uniform that played well. Jordan Mailata, who was making his first start ever, filled in at left tackle and made us forget about Jason Peters, for one night at least. If he keeps performing the way he did against the 49ers, the ‘Birds’ might have found some insurance even though the plan is still for Andre Dillard to become their left tackle of the future.
The Eagles’ defense also did their part and registered five tackles while cornerback Cre’von LeBlanc forced a fumble that was recovered by defensive tackle Malik Jackson. Linebacker Alex Singleton returned his first interception ever for his first career NFL touchdown. All of that was huge.
Philly’s first win of the season wasn’t perfect. Jason Kelce botched a snap or two and backup quarterback Jalen Hurts fumbled again, his second of the season. Nathan Gerry continues to be a liability at the linebacker position even if defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz says it’s not the case, but a win is a win.
While it’s encouraging to see Philly get their first of the season, there’s no reason for us to get too wrapped up in any of that. There is plenty of football left to play in 2020 and the ‘Birds’ can’t let one victory go to their heads. Rather, they have to use it as motivation to go out and get another (if they can continue to play up to their potential).
