They had great games, but Philadelphia Eagles fans should pump the breaks.

It’s okay to be excited. We’re all Philadelphia Eagles fans after all. Whether we’re busy with our own lives and don’t get a chance to do much other than work or we’re vacationing and can’t stop grabbing our phones every five minutes to see if we’ve missed any news, we’re in love with this team.

We love this team when they win all of those primetime games that they were supposed to get blown out in. We love this team when they underperform and battle their way to a tie against one of the NFL’s worst teams at home. As much as we say we’re done with them, we can’t stop being Eagles fans no matter how much we try.

An NFL fan has to be careful though because the word fan is also the root word of fanaticism, which if you aren’t careful, can blind you. One’s fanaticism can lead them down a path where they begin believing what they want to believe about a team even though the evidence doesn’t support the theory. Just listen to Dallas Cowboys fans talk if you need an example.

If you’re an Eagles fan, you feel better after Week 4 than you did in Week 2 or Week 3, but it would be wise to keep things in perspective. It was a great win versus the San Francisco 49ers, and yes, your team is in first place, but that’s largely because they play in the NFC East. This team has a 1-2-1 record heading into Week 5. Be proud of the win, but calm down a tad, especially in terms of the roster. Here are three ‘Birds’ we all want to see succeed, but we may have been overvaluing them slightly.
