850. . . . Jaycee Horn, cornerback. 1. player

The Gamecocks have two cover guys that can upgrade the Philadelphia Eagles secondary.

Though it would be nice to land the Alabama Crimson Tide’s Patrick Surtain II, that probably isn’t happening. He’s probably going to be the first cornerback taken in 2021’s NFL Draft. Let’s say the Ohio State Buckeyes standout, Shaun Wade, is the second cover guy that’s taken, which is a very real possibility. The question then becomes who the third guy is.

Is it Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley? He had one good year. He also gets hurt a lot and he opted out of the 2020 ACC season due to COVID-19 concerns. Stanford’s Paulson Adebo would have been one of the top corners taken in 2020’s selection meeting, but he elected to go back to school. He’s also a Pac-12 guy.

So, since this is an SEC-only mock, and Philly definitely needs someone who can play corner (they could lose Jalen Mills, Nickel Robey-Coleman, and Cre’Von LeBlanc in the offseason), try South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn on for size. The media will fawn more over Israel Mukuamu all season, but a little research and following the right people on Twitter will reveal something to you. Horn could be the better NFL prospect.

Don’t be surprised if Horn gets compared to Stephon Gilmore a lot because they’re both tall, they’re rangy, they play the same position, and they played for the same college football program. Don’t be surprised if Horn is already off the board early and the ‘Birds’ go with Israel Mukuamu as a consolation prize. Either way, they upgrade their cornerback position from what they already have just by adding one of the Gamecocks’ best players.
