54. . . . Jim Schwartz, Defensive Coordinator. 1. player

Coming in at number one on the dud list is Eagles defensive coordinator James J. Schwartz. Philly’s defense didn’t play particularly well, but what happened with the game on the line is what people are talking about this morning. With the ‘Birds’ only down on the scoreboard by two points, Schwartz called for soft zone coverage and placed the Eagles’ weakest link, linebacker Nate Gerry, on Steelers wide receiver, Chase Claypool, who had been torching the ‘Birds’ all day.

There isn’t an Eagles fan in the Delaware Valley or anywhere else in the country that doesn’t know what happened next.

The Defense. 2. player. 54. . .

Philly’s defense had a tough task in front of them in containing all of those Steelers weapons, and they were actually able to come up with some big plays, but when this unit had to make some big plays, they often didn’t, especially earlier and later in the contest. There were blown assignments and Pittsburgh’s offensive line was able to hold Philly to only one sack. As they have all season, the Eagles’ defense had no answers for reverses and they overcommitted much to often, leaving them vulnerable to the underneath throws.

. . . Zach Ertz, Tight End. 3. player. 54

It’s been a tough go for Zach Ertz the past couple of weeks. With only 19 catches for 139 yards on the season, Philly fans are starting to question if Zach Ertz is still an elite player in this league. They shouldn’t. Teams are scheming to stop him and double-teaming him at times to limit his impact on games due to a lack of talent on this Eagles offense, but results are all anyone cares about. Ertz’s results haven’t been that good.

Sunday was no better. He had one catch for six yards. A lot of attention is being paid to his contract situation, but in the minds of many, ’86’ hasn’t done himself any favors.

. . The officials. 4. player. 54.

Though this sometimes comes off as a poor excuse for a team loss and some may see blaming the officials as busch league, it can not be ignored that there were several penalities that went uncalled and questionable pass interference calls that were made against Philly. Look no further than an obvious fumble recovery on a loose ball that was knocked out of tight end Eric Ebron’s hands.

54. . . . Boston Scott, Runningback. 5. player

One of last season’s heroes, running back Boston Scott has been extremely quiet this season and has had minimal impact offensively. Scott just hasn’t been able to find his lanes when running through the defense, and the ‘shiftiness’ that made him so valuable isn’t there this season. Fans and his teammates had high hopes, but so far in 2020, he hasn’t shown us anything so far this season.

Next. Philadelphia Eagles have found a diamond. dark

Week 5 resulted in a tough loss. It was a game that was there for the taking. Unfortunately, things swung the other way. Philadelphia sits at 1-3-1 after five games, but there were many positives that came out of this game. Hope is still alive for this team and if they can overcome the injuries, they could be a tough out all year.
