4. The Philadelphia Eagles still have hope.

It doesn’t matter who is in first place in the putrid NFC East after five weeks. Anybody could come out on top after the season’s all said and done, but after witnessing the Eagles’ offensive emergence in Week 5, the favorite to represent the East in the playoffs should, indeed, be Philly.

Carson Wentz continues to improve. Travis Fulgham is here to stay. A Jim Schwartz-less defense could be on the field in the near future. Doug Pederson seems to have found his mojo once again. Miles Sanders is explosive as ever. The offensive line replacements are playing much better than expected, and then there’s this. Everybody else in the NFC East stinks.

Add it all up and the Eagles have as good a chance as any to make the playoffs for the fourth straight year.

Now, that all might come to a halt next week when Philly faces off against Baltimore, but for now, there is some shine in Philly.

More overreactions and observations:

  • Jordan Mailata will be the starting left tackle the remainder of the season.
  • Nathan Gerry should go from starter to free agent, now.
  • Jalen Hurts tossed an absolute dime, more of those are coming.
  • John Hightower is on the cusp of breaking out, he’s close.
  • This team doesn’t need DeSean Jackson; wasted roster spot and money.
  • Alshon Jeffrey, though, huge reinforcement coming.
  • Darius Slay finally struggled like a classic Philly corner.
  • Rodney McLeod has been rock solid.
  • Dallas Goedert > Zach Ertz.
  • Oh, did we mention fire Jim Schwartz?

Let’s hope this Week 6 game gets here pretty quickly.
