Philadelphia Eagles: Grades for every NFC East team at 2020’s midpoint
This division rival looks to be the Philadelphia Eagles’ main competition.
The Washington Football team has had some rough seasons over the past few years, but with new head coach Ron Rivera, they are looking to make a stand and turn things around (or at least try to). The Football Team hasn’t shined outside of their divisional wins against the Eagles and the Cowboys, but they seem to be headed in the right direction.
Like the Cowboys, they seem to continue to play musical chairs at the quarterback position. They also lack offensive weapons. With wide receiver Terry McLaurin being their number-one target in the passing game, the remainder of their receiving corps falls well short of being a real threat to any opposing team that Washington may face (besides the ones in this division).
Running back Antonio Gibson has shown some flashes, but Washington still hasn’t been able to get consistent production from the rookie. The Football Team’s calling card has been their pass rush which is spearheaded by an extremely stout defensive front.
As powerful as thaty unit is, they’re secondary is a concern, especially with the latest season-ending injury to safety Landon Collins. Without him, the backend of the defense will have some serious issues in covering everyone.
Controversy is beginning to swirl. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there are rumors that star defensive end Ryan Kerrigan has been vocal about his desire to be traded out of Washington. Coach Rivera has denied that, but this might be interesting to watch.
Washington is fully capable of taking the division lead, but with so many struggles offensively, this team will have to find a way to win with their defense. Grade: C-
