Dissecting 2 positives from this struggling Philadelphia Eagles team
2. Travis Fulgham is the breakout star the Philadelphia Eagles have hoped for.
When the 2020 season began, the Eagles wide receiving corps was supposed to be one of this team’s bright spots, but they were ravaged by injuries before things ever got going. DeSean Jackson had his issues (as always). First-round draft selection Jalen Reagor got banged up. Alshon Jeffery began the campaign as unavailable and never seems to be healthy anymore.
Philly was again left with unproven players and a bunch of practice squad guys trying to prove themselves. Travis Fulgham was one of those guys. Fast forward, and he’s become 2020’s version of what Greg Ward became for this team in 2019.
Once Fulgham got his shot, there’s been no looking back as he has 31 receptions for 451 yards and four touchdowns on the season. At this point, it’s easy to understand why some believe that Fulgham’s being discussed too often, but can you blame anyone for doing so? He’s becoming what Jeffery and JJ Arcega-Whiteside were supposed to be.
The Old Dominion alum has struggled over the course of the last two weeks, but there’s no reason to believe that he’ll stay in the funk for long. Carson Wentz’s play will have a lot to do with how things go. 11 hasn’t been consistently accurate as he’s struggling with mechanics and fighting to stay vertical behind a makeshift offensive line.
Look, are the Eagles bad? Yes, they are, and the team seriously needs to take a hard look at themselves in the mirror. Truthfully, there may need to be a massive overhaul in the offseason. Until then, the best thing that Birds fans can do is hang their hats on a few positives. It’s easier than it seems. Perhaps, this story can be evidence of that.
