Should the Philadelphia Eagles just stay with the franchise for now?

At this point, there are, unfortunately, a lot more reasons to criticize Carson Wentz than there are to praise him, especially this year. Sure, the argument can be made that 11 rallied the Birds last season in the final month, but he did so versus some pretty raggedy franchises.

If that’s your argument, however, you have to make a similar argument when describing what you saw from Jalen Hurts in Week 13. Yeah, he had a nice showing, but Green Bay was in some weird umbrella/prevent defense. for a lot of that. Yeah, he had that nice touchdown pass, but he also caught a Green Bay defense off guard. They didn’t prepare for Number 2 and didn’t expect to see him.

As sick as some of you are of hearing this, the Eagles are still in the thick of things in this NFC East title chase. That’s a statement that has gotten sadder each time we’ve heard it, but it’s true. There’s no guarantee that Hurts gives Philly a better shot to win any of the Eagles’ upcoming games, and for that reason, the Birds, if they want to win, have to go with the guy that is more familiar with this offense.

We also know more about what an Eagles offense looks like with 11 at the helm than we know about what Hurts will look like if he starts for four quarters. Sure, at times, it’s looked awful. At times, it looks decent. When 11 is at his best, we’ve seen Philly’s offense look phenomenal.

That guy we saw in 2017 has to still be inside of this broken-down shell somewhere. The best course of action might be to leave Wentz in. Then, once the Eagles are officially mathematically eliminated from the postseason, then, you can go with the rookie. Until then, a playoff spot is on the line.
