Regardless of how it ends, Ertz’s place in Philadelphia Eagles history is assured.

Truthfully, the Philadelphia Eagles don’t need to decide Zach Ertz‘s future during 2021’s offseason. He’s signed with the team through the next NFL campaign. It’s hard to imagine a scenario in which he’s back though.

Philly needs an overhaul, particularly on offense, and if you haven’t learned anything else from the 2020-2021 season, it should be this. There’s nothing to demonstrate that Ertz is in the team’s long-term plans.

He’ll be missed. It will be strange to see him in another team’s jersey but after 561 receptions, 6,078 receiving yards, and 36 trips to the end zone if you include his playoff numbers (including a memorable catch on fourth down and dive across the line in Super Bowl LII that will never be forgotten), Ertz’s place in the hearts of Birds fans is permanent, and for now, so is his hold on the record for the most single-season receptions by a tight end in the NFL’s 101-year history.

Honorable mention: Brandon Brooks (guard)

Brandon Brooks is another great lineman that can be argued onto the list. Like Lane Johnson, he’s a three-time Pro Bowl nod (2017–2019). He’s universally seen as one of the best at his position when healthy.

Brooks plays the guard position which isn’t what you’d call one that comes with a ton of glory, but here’s the thing that you have to keep in mind. The Eagles front won the Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the Year Award following the 2017 season. They don’t do that if Brandon Brooks is on the squad.
