Cameron Johnston is a weapon for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Australian punter Cameron Johnston has turned himself into a solid weapon for the Philadelphia Eagles. There is no logical reason why Johnston wouldn’t return to Philly in 2021. Only the New York Jets and Washington Football Team punted more than the Eagles in 2020, and that resulted in the young man getting plenty of work in.

Johnston doesn’t have the biggest leg as he finished just outside the top ten in average yards per punt, but he did find himself sixth in the league with 26 punts inside the 20-yard line.

In a tumultuous season filled with consistent failures, Johnston might have been the team’s MVP. With an offense continuing to stall time and time again, Johnston set the defense up for success multiple times by pinning opposing offenses deep in Eagle territory.

Johnston was picked up by the Eagles prior to the 2017 season to compete with Donnie Jones and ultimately lost the job to the man they dubbed ‘long ball’ resulting in Johnston’s release. The Eagles, however, trusted Johnston enough to give him a futures contract at the conclusion of the 2017 season and it has clearly paid off for both parties.

Johnston, whose contract was worth more than both Ward’s and Singleton’s in 2020, will turn 30 prior to the 2021 season beginning, but age won’t deter Philly from resigning him. Johnston has given the Eagles a seamless transition from Jones and should pick up a long-term contract this offseason from Philadelphia.
