1. The Philadelphia Eagles miss on Jefferson after missing on Metcalf.

Every single season, it’s the same thing with this Eagles team. Ever since Doug Pederson was introduced as this team’s head coach and executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman traded up twice in 2016’s NFL Draft to take Carson Wentz with the second-overall selection, much of the discussion surrounding him has been about finding weapons to surround him.

Ever since that day, they’ve added guys in free agency (Torrey Smith, Alshon Jeffery, Mike Wallace, and DeSean Jackson for instance). They’ve even drafted a few guys (Shelton Gibson, Mack Hollins, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Jalen Reagor, John Hightower, and Quez Watkins).

It’s Philly’s evaluation of the position that has left something to be desired, and in the process, they swung the bat hard and missed twice during two consecutive selection meetings. Even if we gave them a pass for taking JJAW seven spots before the Seattle Seahawks selected D.K. Metcalf (remember that D.K.’s neck injury at the collegiate level made a few teams shy away), taking Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson one year later knowing that they had to nail that first-round selection in 2020 is unforgivable.

This organization doesn’t learn from its mistakes. Nothing has worked in terms of finding legitimate wide receivers, so here we are.

We’re approaching 2021’s NFL Draft and it’s the same thing. We’re still talking about the Eagles finding a number-one receiver. We just don’t know if that receiver will be hauling in passes from Carson Wentz or Jalen Hurts. What we do know is the Birds are in a situation much like the one they were in just a year ago. There may be a need to take one early, possibly even in the first round.
