4 NFL Draft prospects Philadelphia Eagles must avoid at six
The Philadelphia Eagles have more pressing needs than defensive end.
The Philadelphia Eagles, since 2016, have drafted five defensive ends: Alex McCalister, Derek Barnett, Josh Sweat, Shareef Miller, and Casey Toohill, who was technically an outside linebacker at the collegiate level that Philly tried to convert to defensive end.
Of those five prospects, Barnett and Sweat are the only two guys who are still on the team. Philly’s best players on defense are also some of their oldest. That includes Brandon Graham, who has an expired deal and may not be back despite earning his first Pro Bowl nod in 2020 (that would suck, but it’s possible).
Still, even with that being said, though it’s undeniable that the Birds need to find depth at the position, it’s hard to justify any thought process that ends with Philly taking an edge guy at pick number six. That means we can rule out Gregory Rousseau of the Miami Hurricanes and Kwity Paye of the Michigan Wolverines.
The former is seen as the best defensive end in the draft by quite a few scouting pundits, but there are some who argue that he isn’t. The latter is a tad more versatile, He seems to be able to play on the edge and slide inside during pass-rush situations. That’s something Philly needs. They just need to address other needs first and hope they can find that guy in a later round.
