If only the Philadelphia Eagles were picking later in the NFL Draft.

Let’s get a few things straight here. Jaycee Horn is an all-world talent. Sure, there’s a little feast or famine there. He’ll sometimes gamble and lose because he believes the opportunity to make something great happen outweighs being cautious. He’s more proactive than reactive.

Those aren’t really flaws though. That’s also why teams employ position coaches.

Horn is, without question, someone who can be perceived as the second-best prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft. Some have him right behind Patrick Surtain of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Others see Caleb Farley as this draft class’ second-best corner. Regardless of whether or not you see Horn or Farley as that guy, here’s the skinny.

The sixth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is too high to take either one of them. That means Philly will miss out on both. They won’t be available in Round 2. Perhaps if the Birds were picking later and Surtain was off of the board, both make sense. At six? The Eagles probably need to go with a legitimate top-tier wideout. If they don’t do that, the only other person that needs to have his name called by this team is Patrick Surtain.

He possesses a quality that even the best wide receivers don’t. Wideouts typically get the ball five or six times a game. Sure, they represent other values. Some block well, and others dictate coverage, creating opportunities for their teammates, but cornerbacks have the opportunity to make something happen on every defensive play.

Again, don’t be shocked if the Birds go with a corner, but if they do, that corner needs to be Patrick Surtain of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
