Philadelphia Eagles draft watch: Ranking 5 best QBs not named Lawrence
Mac Jones might be someone the Philadelphia Eagles should think about, maybe.
Here’s about as honest a statement as any man can make. Sometimes, it’s hard to talk yourself out of thinking that, if some of us had the Alabama Crimson Tide’s offensive line in front of us, Jaylen Waddle on one side of the formation, DeVonta Smith on the other, and Najee Harris in the backfield with us, some of us can probably walk out onto a college football field and throw for at least 100 to 200 yards.
That’s what makes evaluating Mac Jones so difficult. It’s also why it’s possible that he isn’t ranked higher on so many draft boards. Sometimes, you wonder if Jones’ success is all attributable to something he’s doing or whether some of it comes from the fact that he’s surrounded by all of that NFL talent.
Then again, there were other Bama signal-callers that had a similar advantage, and they weren’t doing some of the things Jones did. Oh well. Debates will rage, but Jones was pretty impressive in 2020.
Jones whooped up on everybody from Missouri, Texas A&M, and Tennessee to Kentucky, LSU, and Notre Dame. He hung 400 passing yards on Georgia and got some nice reviews at the most recent Senior Bowl. Still, even with all of that being said, every scout any member of our staff spoke to stated that Jones could be a second-round guy, but he’s, more realistically a mid-round prospect. No one seems to be willing to put him in Round 1 territory.
