Defensive end. 2. player. 54. . .

Will a Philadelphia Eagles legend be back following a Pro Bowl season?

It doesn’t matter how incredible a team’s quarterback is. When the defensive line gets pressure consistently throughout a game, that all-star at the signal-caller position becomes mistake-prone and mediocre.

Eagles fans watched their quarterbacks turn into pumpkins this year behind bad decision-making and a battered offensive line. Pass rushers had a field day against the Birds.

Everyone in the U.S. saw the Buccaneer’s pass rushers make the anointed one, Patrick Mahomes, look shaken for the first time in his career. That confident swagger he has displayed without respite disappeared right before our eyes. It was written all over his face.

On football’s biggest stage, he shrunk like a frightened turtle. Now, while that isn’t an indictment against Patrick Mahomes, it should serve as a reason to admire Tampa Bay’s defense. There isn’t a quarterback in the league who would have succeeded in those conditions.

Philly has some decent players at the defensive end position. Josh Sweat looks like he’ll be a solid player moving forward. Derek Barnett is a pretty good player. Hopefully, he’ll break out sooner rather than later. Brandon Graham’s time is numbered from a chronological standpoint, and his contract just ended.

Would Philly consider bringing him back? They wouldn’t let him walk after a Pro Bowl season, would they? Here are the facts. Once you get past him, the Eagles have a lot to be desired at the position. Watching Chase Young destroy the world for Washington should show anyone everything they need to see when evaluating the importance of a dominant edge rusher.
