Philadelphia Eagles salary cap watch: 3 Reasons panicking is unnecessary

The Philadelphia Eagles can get creative with a few trade ideas.

Collectively, Brooks, Johnson, and Barnett combine for well over $42 million of Philly’s salary structure in 2021. Marquise Goodwin adds another $4.2 million. Andre Dillard adds $3.3 million to the total. Sheesh!  That’s five guys if you’re keeping score. Goodwin and Dillard are currently the 14th-highest and 15th highest-paid players on the Eagles’ team salary listing for 2021, respectively.

Yes, you read that correctly. Goodwin makes more money than Dillard, and most of you forgot that he was on the team. If Philly believes in Prince Tega Wanogho, Jack Driscoll, and Jordan Mailata, Dillard could be trade bait. Here’s something else that you may not know. Like Barnett, Goodwin wouldn’t cost the Birds anything in dead cap money if he’s cut before June 1st. The better option, however, would be for Philly to trade them to see if they could get something out of the deal to help this potential roster overhaul.

Here’s a fair question though. Would Philly be willing to move on from their first-round selections from 2017 (Barnett) and 2019 (Dillard) after they’ve already dealt their first-rounder from 2016 (Carson Wentz)? What kind of shockwaves would that send through the fan base and media?

Oh well, right now, that’s neither here nor there. The lesson in all of this is Philly has a ton of options to get them under the cap, so the next time one of the Eagles fans tells you in that whiny tone that ‘we can’t do anything because of the cap says we can’t’, just put them on silent or something in your Twitter feed and move on.
