3 Running back prospects Philadelphia Eagles can consider after Round 1
Here’s one more unlikely add that the Philadelphia Eagles should still watch.
From the outside looking in, there doesn’t seem to be any realistic scenario in which the Philadelphia Eagles land Kenny Gainwell. Even still, when NFL teams set up draft boards, they put the best players at every position on it and rank them. With the knowledge of that, this five-foot-eleven, 191-pound prospect’s name should be one that Philly’s brass and scouting team has talked about before.
Here’s the thing though. By the time the Birds are ready to take a running back, if that’s something that’s still a part of the thought process, Gainwell will probably be long gone. He feels like a second-round prospect. If he slips into Round 3, the team taking him will be very lucky to get him there.
As far as the numbers go, they look like this. The resume isn’t extensive but it’s impressive, and you can say that even though some will ignore him because he’s a product of the American Athletic Conference, which doesn’t fall under the category of a Power Five program.
In 18 career games, Gainwell racked up 1,550 yards on 235 career rushes and 662 receiving yards on 57 snags. In all, he scored 17 touchdowns. No, he wasn’t playing the SEC or Big Ten, but he looked good against the competition he did see. Write this down. Kenny Gainwell is the best running back in the 2021 NFL Draft class not named Travis Etienne, Najee Harris, or Javonte Williams.
