player. 811. . . . Round 5: Ambry Thomas, Michigan.

Okay Philadelphia Eagles fans, one good turn deserves another from the rivals. How about a Michigan double-play?

One good Columbus-style double-play deserves another from Ann Arbor. Before you send those nasty emails or unnecessary profanity-laden comments to us via social media, let’s establish something. We get it. You don’t understand why it took five rounds to address the cornerback position.

Here’s the thing though. When you go the route of taking the best player available, you can miss on guys like Gregory Newsome II and Shaun Wade. Then again, come to think about it, we don’t even know if Wade will work out, do we? He most certainly had some rough outings in 2020.

The third best corner in this class from the Big Ten, however, is Ambry Thomas of the Michigan Wolverines. We don’t want to knock the guy, but we need to be honest. There’s no reason to select him before the draft’s third day, thus the fifth-round selection.

Fear not, he’s pretty good though. He should begin as a special teams player and a backup at the pro level, which unfortunately means he could compete for a starting role in Philly seeing as how they have a mess in the secondary.

The Philadelphia Eagles have another pick in Round 5.

The Eagles have two fifth-round choices thanks to the rival Dallas Cowboys, and with it, they take Nick Eubanks, a tight end out of Michigan. Now, he wasn’t asked to catch the ball much, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t. Round 5 seems about right to hear his name called. Expect for him to compete for one of three tight end spots as he’s also a good blocker.

He’s six-foot-five and tips the scales at 256 pounds. He’d make a nice target for Jalen Hurts in the red zone.
