Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Realistic expectations for Alex Singleton in 2021
Philadelphia Eagles fans should be witnesses to history.
All hope isn’t lost as it appears the Birds are still capable of doing some smart things every once in a while. These days, it doesn’t seem like those moments come as often as they used to, but every fan that self-identifies as an Eagles supporter breathed a sigh of relief when Philly tendered Singleton on the first day of March.
This young man immediately put the fan base on notice when he guaranteed he’d break the single-season mark for tackles, a record currently held by one of the greatest players to ever put on a football jersey, the Minister of Defense, Reggie White.
Here’s what’s crazy. That isn’t a tall order, and here’s why. As mentioned earlier, Mr. Singleton appeared in all 16 games and started 11 during the 2020-2021 season. The result was 120 total tackles on 748 snaps, good for about 68 percent of the team’s total.
Given five more starts and many of those on-field opportunities that were given to Nathan Gerry, there’s no reason to believe that Singleton can’t earn another 14 tackles somewhere. Throw in about ten tackles for a loss for good measure.
