. . . Defense. . player. 54

Here are the best options for the Philadelphia Eagles at every defensive position.

They say offense sells tickets and defense wins championships. Philly is starved for talent on both sides of the ball. Here are a few guys that can help them prevent the opposing team from scoring.

Defensive end: Carlos Dunlap, Aldon Smith, Olivier Vernon

Yes, Jadeveon Clowney, who’s really a defensive end/outside linebacker hybrid, was left off of this ist for a reason. He’s a better run defender than a pass rusher, and he seems to believe that he can turn his motor on and off whenever he wants to. In other words, he’s lazy.

Defensive tackle: Kawann Short, Ndamukong Suh, DaQuan Jones

Here’s an immensely talented trio who, whether right or wrong, are beginning to fall under the category of mercenaries for hire. If you need a quick fix, they’ll do, but they aren’t long-term solutions.

Linebacker (both inside and outside): Melvin Ingram, Kyler Fackrell, K.J. Wright

K.J. Wright is the best of this bunch, but he’ll turn 32 in July. You have to wonder if he’s close to his regression. Ryan Kerrigan is also out there, but he seems to be seen more as a 3-4 guy.

Cornerback: Casey Hayward, K’Waun Williams, Richard Sherman

As you know, the Birds and New York Giants both wanted Adoree Jackson, and he wound up with Big Blue, so he’s off of the market. K’Waun Williams is more of a slot guy, but he’s also pretty good.

Throw the always-interesting Richard Sherman in there if you just need another name. If you still aren’t satisfied, there are other options like A.J. Bouye, Darqueze Dennard, and Malcolm Butler.

Safety: Kareem Jackson, Malik Hooker, Tashaun Gipson

The Eagles are already loaded at safety now, from a bodies standpoint, but that’s a decent list of names if you need one. Hooker may be headed to the Dallas Cowboys.
