When you mention the Philadelphia Eagles, some names just find their way into the conversation: “Concrete Charlie”, Reggie, Randall, Brian Dawkins. Then, when you get into Philly sports in general, you can crack a smile whenever you hear names like “Smoking Joe”, Wilt, Dr. J, Bobby Clarke, Mike Schmidt, Jimmy Rollins, and, of course, A.I.
Think about something for a second. What if Andy Reid, Donovan McNabb, and Terrell Owens all could have coexisted? Philly might have been able to win that Super Bowl much earlier, and T.O.’s name probably could have been placed on that list right next to guys like Steve Carlton and Allen Iverson.
T.O. could have been one of the most beloved Birds of all time. Philly fans loved this guy that much at one point.
The former Philadelphia Eagles star is at it again.
Part of what made T.O. so likable was the fact that you knew he was bringing the thunder and lightning on game days, and if you’ve kept up with Owens at all, you know that retirement hasn’t made him any less competitive.
Recently, 81 popped up on Behind The Mask on the Bleav Podcast Network with another former Eagle, NFL Legend Takeo Spikes. He discussed work ethic, his career, and the importance of knowing the business of the NFL. Oh, and in typical T.O. fashion, he issued a challenge. No, it wasn’t aimed at Donovan McNabb. This time he has Brandon Marshall in his sights.
It looks like Owens thinks that he can beat Mr. Marshall in a foot race. Are you not entertained? Here’s a quote.
"(On) my hit list is Brandon Marshall. He called me out! I named a couple of guys, football-wise, that I felt like could compete (with me) or had speed. He was one of those guys, and then, he called me out. Well, let’s put 100k on the line. For me, I’ve been ready… When I raced Cheetah (Tyreek Hill), I was seven and a half, probably almost eight months removed from (ACL surgery). I hadn’t run. I haven’t done anything. all I had done up to that point is rehab."
Terrell Owens hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2010. Marshall’s last game came during Week 8 of the 2018 season as a member of the Seattle Seahawks. Let’s be honest though. Who wouldn’t want to see these two go at it, even today?
Owens snagged 133 receptions for 2,085 yards and 20 touchdowns in 22 career games with the Philadelphia Eagles. That includes 22 starts and one memorable showing in Philly’s second Super Bowl appearance. He snagged nine for 122 yards in that one.
It wasn’t a long run, but it will never be forgotten by Birds fans. We’ve even forgiven him for signing with the Dallas Cowboys. Now, how about we get that race scheduled?
