Philadelphia Eagles draft: 4 Boom or bust second-round prospects
Williams is a nice depth option at running back for the Philadelphia Eagles.
By now, you’ve seen how running backs are treated come draft time. People don’t want to invest high picks on guys that play a position that takes so much punishment.
For that reason, it’s hard to determine where Najee Harris and Travis Etienne come off of the board come draft time, but if they get taken later in Round 1, a very real possibility, Javonte Williams is someone that can go late in Round 1 or high in Round 2.
In this scenario, we’re banking on the latter scenario, even though much of the ITI staff agree that Williams is the third-ranked running back prospect behind Harris and Etienne. Kenny Gainwell of Memphis and Kylin Hill of Mississippi State round out the top five. No disrespect is intended to Trey Sermon or Rhamondre Stevenson.
Williams has nice size. He’s five-foot-ten and weighs 220 pounds, but the question is whether or not he’s a consistent three-down guy or a very good part of a consistent one-two punch. Gosh, it would be nice to see him team up with Miles sanders, but it’s doubtful Philly will take a running back that high. You never know though.
