When you think about the now 88-year history of the Philadelphia Eagles, there’s a lot to talk about. Look no further than those four NFL Championships, including the team’s first Super Bowl win (if you call that an NFL Championship). There are names like ‘Concrete Charlie’, the ‘Minister of Defense’, and ‘Weapon X’ (or ‘The Wolverine’). There are also some rather iconic numbers that make you think of certain guys whenever they’re you see those digits.

Who doesn’t know who ’12’, ‘5’, ’20’, and ’92’ are? Numbers make us go pay upwards of $200 to $300 for an authentic jersey. They also make us select those numbers whenever we suit up for a pickup game.

On the first Friday of April, the Birds officially announced the jersey numbers of the more established and newer Eagles. Something probably jumped out at you if you saw that though. It appears QB1, Jalen Hurts, is switching it up some. He ditches the number 2 jersey for the number 1 designation. Coincidence? We think not!

How about a few conspiracy theories if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan?

Think about this Birds fans. Last year, ‘Number 2’ was taken in the second round and was Philly’s second pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Philadelphia Eagles did so with the intention of making him the second quarterback behind Carson Wentz.

Well, Wentz is gone now, and even though it seemed as though natural progression would have elevated the former QB2 to QB1, rumor has it that Philly thought about trading up to get another QB1 in the next draft, but that’s not all.

Rumor also states that Philly entertained some trade options to find a replacement because they weren’t quite sure if Mr. Hurts was ready.

Well, that’s behind us now. The boss, Jeffrey Lurie insists that the Eagles do what’s necessary to give Hurts the best chance to be successful. The Eagles needed a backup, so they brought in Joe Flacco. He gets a new number as well (7) because he obviously can’t wear number 5, but Hurts is the star of the show here.

Place this in your hearts if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan!

Jalen Hurts’ switch from number 2 to number 1 is about more than the number 1 being available. Mr. Hurts is making a statement. This is his team. He isn’t looking over his shoulder. He’s the guy. QB1 wears the number 1 now, and if you don’t like it, tough cookies!

Okay, maybe that’s a bit much. then again, is it?

Well, let’s just leave things like this. Hopefully, you guys that bought the Jalen Hurts number 2 jersey in 2020 didn’t spend a great deal on it. Hey, look at the bright side. Maybe now, yours will be seen as a classic or something. Let’s just call it a throwback. How about that?
