As much as the Philadelphia Eagles hate to admit it, linebackers are important.

It’s been said so much at this point that the phrase toes a line between comical, worn-out, and annoying. The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t taken a linebacker in the first round of any NFL Draft since they took Jerry Robinson out of UCLA in 1979.

What else can be said at this point that hasn’t already been said at least thirty times? No, Andy Reid didn’t really value the position that much but lucked into Jeremiah Trotter and a few other guys.

Jim Schwartz? Nah? He didn’t put stock in the position either, and other than an occasional Mychal Kendricks here or a Nigel Bradham or Jordan Hick there, this Eagles franchise appears to be allergic to making the second level of their defense a consistent area of emphasis.

Hopefully, this is the year. Philly drafted two linebackers in 2020, and heading into 2021, the hope is at least one of their 11 draft picks will be used on solidifying the position. Just don’t count on them taking Micha Parsons in Round 1, so the streak will continue of ignoring first-round talent at the linebacker position should continue.

Oh well, just in case you’re interested, here are the best draft prospects once you get past Micah Parsons. Hopefully, one of these guys can drive a wedge in a revolving door that has seemingly been there since Andy Reid was pacing the sidelines.
