Regardless of what happened last year, we as Philadelphia Eagles fans absolutely love Zach Ertz. We’ve spent so much time talking about his physical regression and lack of production that we’ve kind of lost sight of that, so yes, it needs to be said.

Birds fans love this guy because of who he is and what he’s done on the football field. 86 loves Birds fans and Philadelphia and does everything that he can to show that love back. As a matter of fact, he loves the city he’s played in and the fans so much so that, when he’s spoken about the City of Brotherly Love recently, at times he’s been brought to tears.

If it was just about loyalty, Zach Ertz would be an Eagle for life. Unfortunately, and here’s something that you’ve been told so often that it probably has lost its zing. Football is indeed a business. At times, it shows loyalty to nothing but its own bottom line.

Philadelphia Eagles fans also recognize that this is a business.

Take a look around the Eagles fan base, especially on social media, and you’ll learn that, just as they are on just about every other topic, they’re split on what they feel Ertz can still bring to the franchise and whether or not he should still be on the roster.

It appears that Philly’s brass and Ertz’s camp aren’t resuming contractual negotiations. Also, despite the fact that the Eagles made it clear that they were looking to move him, teams haven’t pulled the trigger to induce any movement on a trade. The theory is the Eagles’ asking price has been too high.

Might the Titans be interested in the Philadelphia Eagles legend?

In keeping with all of this, Chris Clark of A to Z Sports Nashville stated some of this a couple of weeks ago on their platform. His work on what he believes it will take to land Ertz or J.C. Jackson is excellent. He believes Ertz is a natural fit in the Titans offense but the reason he might not already be in Nashville is because of that high asking price that was just mentioned.

The Philadelphia Eagles may not get everything that they want if they enter into a trade and, technically, they don’t have to make a decision right now. After picking up an option on his deal prior to the 2020 campaign, he’s actually signed to Philadelphia through the 2021 season.

Something else is at play here though. Philly probably wants to also think about the fact that waiting another year may result in just seeing the best tight end in franchise history walk without them getting anything for him in return.

Philly’s first touchdown pass in 2020 was a connection that was the result of the right arm of Carson Wentz and the waiting hands of Zach Ertz. Wentz is gone. Ertz may soon follow. 86 clearly regressed physically and from a production standpoint in 2020, but there is still a market for him.

The question is whether or not that will lead him to Nashville. Keep an eye on this one if you’re Birds fans. It will be interesting to see if this continues to get tossed around.
