It wasn’t that long ago that the Inside The Iggles staff was trolling one of the New York Giants for implying that the Philadelphia Eagles rookie wide receiver and first-round selection wasn’t happy about being a Bird. What are we supposed to believe? Smith would have rather been a member of the G-Men?

What Big Blue’s Jabril Peppers didn’t realize with a head-scratching post on his Instagram story was this. DeVonta Smith wasn’t disappointed. He was locked in.

Okay, it’s time for a few Philadelphia Eagles fans to be petty.

No, none of the NFC East’s four teams can claim that they were supremely focused during all 16 games of the 2020-2021 season, but New York’s been tripping (for lack of a better term). They’ve spent a ton of time recently stressing over what the Birds are doing instead of handling their own business.

First, it was Philly’s fault that they lost the NFC East. Now, their best players are on social media trying to clown the Birds on IG and Twitter? Who knows? Maybe the Giants could have done a better job with their own schedule instead of relying on a rival to help them earn a playoff spot in Week 17? It’s just a thought.

Let’s talk about one of the most popular Philadelphia Eagles right now.

Anyway, let’s talk about the Eagles, which is why you guys are all here right? The tenth-overall selection in 2020’s draft, one Mr. Smith is already settling into the City of Brotherly Love nicely. He’s going to get a lot of love from this fan base.

Recently, he gave Birds fans and the media another reason to smile. While preparing for Eagles rookie minicamp at the NovaCare Complex, 6 had this to say.

"I feel like whatever (Jalen Hurts and I) did in college, it has nothing to do with now because things have changed over time… (Our previous history at Alabama) can only help so much. We have to continue building that (chemistry). Just because we had that connection in college, doesn’t mean it’s the same now. We both have grown as players, and we both have things we’ve added to our game, so we have to build from that (relationship) and get better now."

Here’s more for Philadelphia Eagles fans and the G-Men to chew on.

Did you see that Peppers? That’s what focus looks like, so we can forget about any comments about Smith preferring to be in New York. We can stop pretending like the most recent Heisman Trophy winner wasn’t stoked about joining the Birds.

Perhaps Smith’s own words sum things up better than any of us ever could. “We always talked about the possibility of us getting back together. That’s great that it happened. We spoke it into existence. It happened and we’re excited”.

He doesn’t sound too heartbroken, does he? Call it a crazy theory, but it looks like 6 is fine right where he is. Birds fans are glad he’s here too. Do you remember what it was like when Terrell Owens arrived? Doesn’t it feel like this has a chance to be even bigger than that was? Put a smile on those faces Eagles fans. This could be a lot of fun for a very long time.
