Have Philadelphia Eagles fans forgiven Michael Jacquet for Week 16?
Michael Jacquet shouldn’t be punished by Philadelphia Eagles fans heading into 2021.
So, here we are. Another NFL season approaches, and one of the topics of discussion in fan and media circles is whether or not this team can improve on what we saw from them at the cornerback position. We know Darius Slay can play. We know the Eagles drafted Zech McPhearson in the most recent NFL Draft. Past that, aside from knowing Avonte Maddox is talented but probably shouldn’t play on the outside, there aren’t many answers.
With that being said, Jacquet will have a realistic shot at earning a roster spot even though he’s still doubted in the court of public opinion. Have Eagles fans forgiven him? Have you?
Football fans are impatient. They want things right now, and though they understand that quarterbacks need time to develop, Jalen Hurts is labeled by some fans as a bust already. Come on guys. He’s started four games. Nobody knows if he’s a franchise signal-caller yet.
Fans also forget that every other position has to be developed as well. That’s why teams employ position coaches. Michael Jacquet had a rough go in Arlington last December, but that shouldn’t be a death sentence. Let’s be frank. The reason that some of you want him off of the team (some of the Inside The Iggles staff is included in this one) is because of what you saw versus Dallas.
Give the man a clean slate. Give the man a chance. A rough start could be the springboard to better things. Jacquet has some ability. We’ll have to wait and see if he can put it all together while dealing with some of the NFL’s most hostile fans. If he’s able to prove his mettle and show that he has a short memory, big things could be in store for both him and Eagles fans.
