. . . Joe Ostman, defensive end. 5. player. 54

Is this the last chance for Joe Ostman to make the Philadelphia Eagles roster?

Defensive end Joe Ostman is a guy who your heart has to go out to. His issue hasn’t really been that he can’t play. He just keeps finding himself in situations where the Birds literally just have guys who are better. Then, when the numbers game didn’t screw him, the injuries did.

In 2020, thanks to injuries and desperation, the Philadelphia Eagles promoted him to the active roster for their games versus the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Football Team, but they reverted him back to the practice squad at the end of each of those games.

So far, he has one tackle on his NFL resume, and after spending the 2018 season on the practice squad and the 2019 regular season on the team’s IR (injured reserve), there’s a sense that this might be his final shot. Unfortunately, the deck is stacked against him like never before as this is one of the better collections of defensive ends the Eagles have had since his arrival.

Just look at the names: Ryan Kerrigan, Derek Barnett, Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, and a very underrated rookie in Tarron Jackson. That means Ostman could be battling JaQuan Bailey and Matt Leo for one roster spot, and that’s if the Birds carry six defensive ends on the current roster.
