Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz

Maybe it’s time to revisit this one? We’ve debated. Challenge flags have been thrown, and upon further review, we can all state, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that Zach Ertz doesn’t have much left.

Once upon a time, he was universally regarded as the NFL’s third-best tight end behind Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers. No one says that anymore, nor does anyone believe it.

Ertz, despite looking like Brian Bosworth at Oklahoma, hasn’t just regressed. He’s fallen off of a cliff. He’s never been much of a blocking tight end or someone who could shed tacklers and create extra yardage. Now, thanks to his deterioration, it’s become even easier to pick up on all of that.

The greatest tight end in Philadelphia Eagles is on pace to haul in about 55 receptions for about 650 yards and somewhere around four touchdowns. Those numbers aren’t overwhelming, but admittedly, that type of production would help an offense that can go on long droughts.

Then again, Ertz is the second-highest-paid player on this team behind Fletcher Cox, and some ‘addition by subtraction’ could give Philly a jump on the future. Plus all of those snaps that have been given to Ertz can go to Dallas Goedert. At this point, perhaps Howie has learned that he has to come down on his asking price.
