54. . . . Quez Watkins, wide receiver. . player

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Quez Watkins

Is it just us, or is Quez Watkins, all of a sudden the most well-rounded receiver that the Philadelphia Eagles have? The Birds entered the 2020 NFL Draft with the idea of getting better and faster at the wide receiver position. They selected three.

The first, Jalen Reagor, is floundering his way through the early stages of his NFL career that is in danger of entering bust territory. John Hightower, Philly’s 168th-overall selection in Round 5 has been a disappointment and is currently on the practice squad. Quez Watkins was the guy we thought the Birds were taking a flier on.

A little over a year later, just using the eyeball test alone, he’s one of the offense’s top producers and someone the team should build around. That’s obvious, so why is it that the Eagles’ brass has seemingly made the decision to give so many snaps to Reagor that feel like they should go to Watkins?

Perhaps being right has become more important than being good? Who knows, but here’s something that we can state with certainty.

Sure, he can add to his route tree and perfect it, but Quez Watkins is better than Jalen Reagor, at least he is right now, and at the risk of sounding disrespectful, this might be the best deep threat that the Eagles have had since they were introduced to a young DeSean Jackson many moons ago. Maybe they should consider lining Watkins up to field punts? Grade: B+
