. Running backs. . player. 54. .

When they get the ball, the Philadelphia Eagles running backs are pretty good.

If you read Inside The Iggles rather consistently, you know that our staff’s opinions of Jordan Howard have been, shall we say, varied since a shoulder injury sustained against the Chicago Bears of all teams wrecked the latter part of his 2019 regular season and, seemingly, all of the 2020 season that followed.

Jordan Howard is only 26 years old, but there have been times recently where he’s looked like he was 36. It looks like the extended rest and a stint on the Eagles practice squad have done him some good though. He ran as hard as we’ve ever seen him do it in Week 9 versus the Detroit Lions to the tune of 57 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.

Miles Sanders is hurt, but he should return soon. He’s been ignored by the coaches at times. The same can be said for Kenneth Gainwell, but no one doubts their ability to make plays. They’re on opposite sides of the spectrum though.

Miles is a better runner than a receiver. Gainwell is a better receiver than a runner. Boston Scott’s performance in Week 8 is only a surprise to the Eagles’ new coaching regime. Everyone else knew that he was a baller.

Still, the Eagles’ running back room appears to have three guys with the same skillset. If Howard can continue to provide some consistency as a workhorse (and if the Eagles coaches can stick with the run), this unit can be special. Grade: B
