3 reasons criticism for Eagles’ Miles Sanders is too harsh

2. Miles Sanders is one of the few home-run threats in the Eagles offense.

Let’s restate something. It’s important that you get this. The issue Sanders has had in 2021 has been this. Even when he was healthy, the Eagles weren’t using him or his talent.

After carrying the ball 15 times in Week 1 versus the Atlanta Falcons, he was given 13 carries versus the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2. Since then, he’s only been given ten or more carries once, in Week 5 versus the Carolina Panthers.

Mind you we’re discussing a guy that eclipsed 800 yards rushing in each of his first two seasons while racking up three runs of 70 yards or more versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, and the New Orleans Saints in 2020.

All three of those resulted in touchdowns, two scored by Sanders and one that resulted in a fumble (his 74-yard run versus Baltimore), but things worked out okay in that scenario as the ball was recovered by JJ Arcega-Whiteside in the end zone for six points.

On a team that doesn’t have a ton of playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, Miles Sanders is one of the true home-run hitters that the Eagles have. Look no further than his run to paydirt versus the Buffalo Bills in his rookie season if you need evidence.

As stagnant as the Eagles’ offense has proven to be from time to time, it would be ridiculous to believe that’s the type of guy you want to bury on the bench.
