NFL Power Rankings: Stacking Jalen Hurts vs the NFC East’s other QBs
Jalen Hurts continues his ascension as the Eagles’ starting quarterback.
Regardless of how this 18-week, 17-game audition winds up, Jalen Hurts has earned the respect of Eagles fans everywhere. That can be stated without hesitation.
No one questions whether or not he has the temperament to be a starting quarterback in the National Football League. He does. The dude is a grown-up.
The questions about Jalen Hurts have never been, nor will they ever be, about his maturity, his leadership, or his dedication to being the best that he can be for himself and his teammates. The only questions that we have or have ever had about Hurts have been about whether or not he can consistently make the throws that an NFL quarterback has to be able to make.
We’ve asked ourselves if accuracy can be coached or taught. Maybe it can’t, but the improvement in QB1’s mechanics can be seen weekly. He’s also a talented scrambler. The next step in Hurts’ development will be the evidence that he can consistently beat teams from the pocket with his arm, but that’s okay.
Every quarterback has something that they can improve on. That’s life in the NFL. Even the better quarterbacks can be reduced to ineffective play sometimes. Ask Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, or Matthew Stafford how they felt after Week 10.
Hurts still hasn’t even started a full season’s worth of game yet. Week 11 will be his 15th start as a professional. Can we stop using every incomplete pass as a reason to say he doesn’t have what it takes? If that can end, you might find yourselves realizing that the Birds may have something here. All they may need to do is coach this guy up.
