Eagles guard Brandon Brooks

After spending the first four seasons of his career with the Houston Texans from 2012 to 2015, Brandon Brooks was signed by the Eagles as a free agent on March 9th of 2016 as part of the transition from Chip Kelly’s regime to the one belonging to Doug Pederson.

Since then, he’s earned three Pro Bowl nominations (2017-2019) and the adoration of most of the football universe as one of the best players at his position. That isn’t Brooks’ entire story with the Eagles though.

It also has to be mentioned that, since Philadelphia’s loss to the New Orleans Saints on January 13th of 2019 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, a game in which Brooks suffered a torn Achilles, the injuries have come more and more often.

In 2020, Brooks separated his shoulder on December 29th during the final game of the regular season. A little less than six months after that, he again suffered a ruptured Achilles. He’s currently on the Eagles’ injured reserve thanks to a pectoral strain that’s caused him to miss every game since the second week of the season.

In his absence, the Eagles have discovered several young guns on their roster that are fully capable of filling in along the interior of the offensive line (Landon Dickerson, Nate Herbig, Jack Anderson, Sua Opeta, and Jack Driscoll).

Seeing them could be the ammunition that the Eagles need to move on from an expensive and oft-injured veteran whose best days seem to be behind him.
