Top 3 Eagles storylines as divisional clash versus Giants approaches
Jonathan Gannon may not have lost the Eagles’ defense after all.
If the current NFL regular season hasn’t reminded us of anything else, it should be this. Growing pains aren’t just limited to rookies and young players on new teams. Coaches can also be overwhelmed by the now 18-week, 17-game schedule, especially if this is their first run in a new position.
Jonathan Gannon‘s approval rating took a huge hit early as the Philadelphia Eagles were torched week after week. The frustration didn’t just come from knowing that the Birds had lost again. It was the way that they were losing.
The defense gave up 28 points or more four times between Week 3 and Week 7, and they gave up 30 points or more three times. Gannon looked befuddled. The defense was frustrated (and they had no problem saying so). It appeared that Gannon had lost his unit.
Perhaps those discussions were a bit exaggerated. Gannon, to his credit, listened to the criticism and adjusted. His defense, over the past two weeks, has been proactive as opposed to being reactive.
They’re competing. They’re challenging the opposing offenses, and everyone in a while, we see the occasional blitz. Gannon is improving as a play-caller, and it’s infused some life into his unit. Let’s just hope that this continues through the remainder of this season.
