1. player. 54. . . . Dallas Goedert, tight end

Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert

No one was surprised by the Dallas Goedert extension… No one.

We knew this was coming when we saw him ball out as a rookie. Say what you want about the Eagles, their lack of concern for the linebacker position, and the way they screw up draft picks, but if the Birds don’t do anything else, they find tight ends.

Let’s just talk about their recent legacy. Think Chad Lewis (he was undrafted). There was also L.J. Smith, Brent Celek, and eventually, Zach Ertz. Add Goedert to the mix as well. Who knows if he’ll eclipse what Zach Ertz has done, but here’s what we can say right now. He has a shot. Not only is he a much better and more polished blocker, but he’s also more versatile and more dynamic with the ball in his hands after the catch.

You’ve heard the saying before. It fits here, so we’ll say it again. Dallas Goedert is too fast for most linebackers to cover. He’s too big for cornerbacks to cover.

His deal is reportedly worth $57 million over four years. That includes a $10 million signing bonus and $35 million guaranteed. That’s an average annual salary of $14,250,000, and ladies and gentlemen, from where we’re sitting, he’s absolutely and positively worth every penny.

We might be looking at one of the best ever if he’s coached correctly and gets the ball thrown in his direction with some relative frequency.
