Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat

Like Hargrave, Josh Sweat’s season isn’t going in the manner that he probably hoped that it would, but make no mistake about it. The Eagles organization is firmly behind the former Florida State Seminole, inking him to a three-year, $40 million extension on September 18th of 2021.

Here’s what’s truly interesting. Just in case you haven’t noticed, the Eagles have yet to ink Barnett, the 14th-overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft to an extension of his own. Part of the reason for that could be that since 2019 despite being on the field for 501 fewer snaps, Sweat has 13.5 sacks, a combined 90 tackles including 52 of the solo variety, and 21 that have resulted in a loss of yardage compared to 14 sacks, 104 total tackles, 90 solo tackles, and 35 TFLs for Barnett.

Call us crazy, but the math doesn’t seem to add up there, especially when you look at what both of these guys are making. If you didn’t know anything about them, and you just watched them play, the argument could be made that it’s Sweat, not Barnett, that looks like the guy that was taken in the first round.
