10 Sub-radar Philadelphia Eagles and how they can help a playoff push
By Hunter Doyle
Will Tarron Jackson make his presence known to Philadelphia Eagles fans?
The defensive line is going to have to be a priority in the upcoming draft, especially with three first-round picks. Philadelphia is 31st in sacks, 24th in pressures, and 19th in knockdowns.
The run defense has been better as of late but the pass rush is not getting home. Gannon prefers to get home with the front four and that isn’t happening. He has gotten creative and included Avonte Maddox, Alex Singleton, and others in blitz packages but the Birds could use help on the line. Brandon Graham’s presence has been missed both in the pass and run game.
Josh Sweat has cooled off since the extension and Derek Barnett has still been a penalty machine. Both have their moments and pass rush wins but the group is lacking a gamechanger. Ryan Kerrigan hasn’t offered much help either – maybe we’re in for a treat tomorrow versus his former team? That’s wishful thinking but the NFL is a wild league so we can hope.
We don’t think that gamechanger is in the room right now but we are hoping that Tarron Jackson can have a strong finish to the season like Josh Sweat in 2019. Jackson has had his ups and downs.
Some reps he gets bullied and others he shows flashes as he did in Denver. PFF has him graded as the Eagles’ second-best pass rusher off of the edge. What you can always count on his effort.
Maybe the young D-end can build off of the flashes make a couple of plays in these next four. It’d help a lot considering the lack of depth. He has been out there for nearly 20 snaps in each of the last three games so the opportunities will be there.
