player. 54. . . . JJ Arcega-Whiteside, wide receiver. 19

Here’s an Eagles experiment that no one would mind seeing end ASAP.

2022 status: 4th year of his 2019 rookie deal

You know the story well. You know it so well that you can recite it backward while sleeping.

There the Eagles sat with the 57th-overall selection in Round 2 on the second day of the 2019 NFL Draft. They had their sights set on a wide receiver after taking Miles Sanders at 53. D.K. Metcalf was available. So was Terry McLaurin. The latter wasn’t even taken until Washington grabbed him in the third round.

Philly ignored both Metcalf and McLaurin and went with JJ Arcega-Whiteside. That was the guy Jeffrey Lurie wanted. How’s that working out for us?

In all honesty, many of us have been scratching our heads while trying to figure this out. D.K. had the neck injury and that scared teams off. Still, it was obvious that he was superior to Arcega-Whiteside, at least it should have been.

Then again, just because it’s obvious, that doesn’t mean that Lurie and Roseman will make the right decision. We were told that JJAW was supposed to be a clone of Alshon Jeffery during his prime years. He clearly isn’t that. Some days, it doesn’t even feel like JJAW is as good as Jeffery was the last time we saw him, and that’s saying a lot.

JJAW’s rookie deal still has one more year remaining on it, but who can stomach one more year of this guy? At this point, the best option is to cut ties and move on.
