Derek Barnett could trade one nest for another in 2022.

If you’re looking for evidence of how unproductive Derek Barnett has been for the Eagles in 2021, look no further than the fact that he hasn’t produced multiple sacks in any game all year. At the end of the regular season, the tally sat at two.

To make matters worse, he hasn’t produced multiple sacks since Philadelphia battled the Cincinnati Bengals to a 23-23 tie in Week 3 of the 2020 campaign. He’ll get another chance though. Someone will buy into the theory that a change of scenery and a fresh start in a new system will wake him up.

Maybe the Atlanta Falcons are paying attention. They got a look at D.B. in Week 1, and that was one of his better games this year. Barnett irritated the Falcons offense by bringing the guy with the football down three times including two tackles that resulted in a loss of yardage. He also registered a QB hit while playing on 32 defensive snaps.

The Falcons will look to find EDGE help this offseason. They were among the game’s worst pass-rushing teams in 2021 which is a fact that certainly isn’t lost on their general manager, Terry Fontenot. Don’t be shocked if Derek Barnett trades one nest for another in 2022.
