It’s time for the Eagles to put some serious stock in the linebacker position.

The Eagles’ lack of urgency in finding a stud to play linebacker is a narrative we’ve tossed back and forth for a while. The fact that they haven’t taken a linebacker in the first round of any draft since 1979 is also familiar. Despite their obvious negligence, the organization has lucked its way into a few decent players over the years.

There was Jeremiah Trotter, but his final game in an Eagles jersey came on January 9th of 2010. Nigel Bradham was one of the heroes of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl run. The stars have been few and far between. These days, there are some guys worth noting. Let’s do some inventory.

T.J. Edwards is a baller. We’ve known that for a while, even if the Birds haven’t always acknowledged the same thing. Before his injury, Davion Taylor was showing us some signs. Alex Singleton is also solid.

Still, with all of the ability that these guys possess (and with all due respect), we’re talking about an undrafted guy, a third-rounder that never played ball in high school, and a guy the Birds plucked out of Canada respectively.

With three first-round selections, the BIrds have some options if they want to invest some early draft capital in a game-changer. After seeing their rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, do the same thing, it could be on the minds of Philadelphia to finally buck tradition and land an ace, especially seeing as how Genard Avery is probably out of here.
