. . . Jerod Mayo, ILB coach, Patriots. . player. 47

Jerod Mayo is someone the Eagles have shown interest in before.

New England Patriots inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo is someone who has been on the Eagles’ radar for a while. If you remember, Mayo was mentioned as a possible replacement for Doug Pederson when the only head coach in Philadelphia’s history parted ways with the team last offseason.  He even interviewed for the job before Philly’s brass settled on Nick Sirianni.

As a player, he was equally as impressive as he was constantly praised for his work ethic. The Pats drafted Mayo tenth overall in 2008’s NFL Draft.

He was the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2008 before eventually becoming a First-team All-Pro in 2010. He also has a Super Bowl ring (XXLIX), two Pro Bowl nods (2010 and 2012), and he’s a member of the New England Patriots 2010s All-Decade Team.

Bill Belichick hired him in 2019 to serve as the team’s inside linebackers coach, a role that he’s been in ever since. He’s had a direct impact on players like Dont’a Hightower.

It isn’t definite that Philadelphia would be able to talk him into a defensive coordinator job as he’s been seen as a head-coaching candidate for a while, but a promotion to the DC chair could improve his stock in NFL circles some. Keep an eye on Mayo. His name could be one that you hear more often as we move through the offseason.
