The Eagles finally find that other starting corner in the form of Sauce Gardner.

A little under three weeks ago, during Inside The Iggles‘ initial first-round mock of the year, the BIrds took Devin Lloyd at pick 15, breaking a 43-year streak in which they’ve never drafted a linebacker in Round 1. While many would love to see the Eagles take a difference-maker on the draft’s first night, just for kicks, we’ll explore what happens if they don’t.

As you can tell by looking at what we cooked up this time around, Ahmad Gardner, seen as a top-ten to top-15 pick by many is sliding in our mock. We’ll send Garrett Wilson, the best wide receiver on our board, to the Los Angeles Chargers at 17 before the New Orleans Saints take Matt Corral at 18. That means ‘Sauce’ is available for the Birds at 19. That’s their selection in this scenario.

Gardner was a Football Writers Association of America First-team All-American in 2020. He finished the 2021 college football season as the AAC Defensive Player of the Year and as a Consensus All-American. He’s also a three-time First-team All-AAC nod (2019, 2020, 2021). If he’s available for the Birds at 19, they should jump at the opportunity.

The good news is that gives Philly a starting-level corner to pair with Darius Slay (and, possibly, his replacement down the road. The bad news is, by ignoring Lloyd with their first-round picks, the Dallas Cowboys could have a shot at him at 24 (if he continues to slide).

Can you imagine a Cowboys linebacker corps that fields Micah Parsons and Devin Lloyd? That could make for a few sleepless nights for Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and his offensive coordinator Shane Steichen.
